Whether you are interested in swimming, surfing, scuba diving, snorkel, sailing, fishing, golf or just lying in the sun a vacation in Hawaii will be sure to please. Located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the Hawaiian islands are a chain of volcanic islands formed thousands and thousands of years ago. The six main islands of Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, Kauai, Molokai and Lanai attract visitors with their unique activities and beautiful landscapes. All of the islands feature beautiful beaches, tropical rain forests and beautiful vistas, however lava floes, volcanic activity, pineapple fields and sugarcane plantations are specific to certain islands.

The islands are accessible only by plane or ship, and are located over 2000 miles from the coast of California. If arriving in Hawaii by plane, plan on visiting only one or two islands during your stay so you can fully enjoy all of the activities, beauty and relaxation the island has to offer. Travel between islands is easy and inexpensive with inter-island flights. However, remember the islands usually have only one main airport so travel to and from your flight will require almost an entire day of your vacation. If you are interested in visiting multiple islands, you might consider a cruise of the Hawaiian islands, which allows you to sample the culture of each island in each port.

Tourism is one of Hawaii’s main industry, so visitors are welcomed with excellent dining, hotel accommodations and activities. The weather in Hawaii, particularly at the beaches is temperate and enjoyable throughout the year. The attire and attitude in Hawaii is laid back and informal. Men dress in Aloha or Hawaiian shirts, and women wear simple flowered dresses. When vacationing in Hawaii, casual comfortable clothing, sandals and sunscreen are all musts. You should bring a light jacket or sweatshirt if you plan to visit the rain forests or up-country where the weather tends to be cooler and it rains more frequently.

Spending time in the beautiful Pacific Ocean is a wonderful way to spend time while in Hawaii. Hawaii boasts some of the best surf spots in the world and beautiful coral reefs for diving and snorkeling. A typical day in Hawaii might start with fresh tropical fruit for breakfast on the lanai, or porch, followed by a day of swimming, sunbathing and snorkeling at the beach. Add an excellent meal for dinner, and the perfect Hawaiian day ends enjoying a tropical beverage while watching the sunset.
