Most people will tell you that it is easier to gain weight than it is to lose weight. To aid in speeding up the weightloss process many people take fat binders. In general, fat binders get mixed reviews from users, but there are reports on their benefits.

What is a fat binder?

A fat binder is a product that many dietary supplement makers claim to be natural that is used to lose weight. Many types of fat binders are derived from plant extracts, but most contain chitosa which comes from chitin, typically found in shellfish. The fat binders have components that are lipophillic which means that they can bind and gather fat molecules. Fat binders are supposed to reduce the amount of fat absorbed from food  and decrease food intake by reducing appetite. It is supposed to be a great product for people who would like to lose weight and become healthier. Some makers of fat binders claim that their products can even lower cholesterol.

Based on reviews written by past users, fat binders fail to meet the high standards that the makers of the products have set. Many users claim little or no weightloss at all after weeks of using fat binders. Most users who claim a substantial amount of weightloss are those who were on a diet or exercise program while taking the fat binders. However, there is little evidence that supports the claim that fat binders alone will help reduce cholesterol.

The Effects of Fat Binders

Watching food intake and exercising on a regular basis while using fat binders will help achieve the weightloss desired at a faster rate, but it is best not to become dependant on them by taking them for a long period of time. The United States Food and Drug Administration has not actually approved fat binders, so users are responsible for any risks that may be associated with the product.

Since many fat binders do contain components found in shellfish, it is best that those who are allergic not to take them. Although there have been reports from users that fat binders are not as effective as claimed, there are few reports of negative side effects. Weightloss from using fat binders alone is not guaranteed, but it is with healthy eating habits and regular physical activity. However, healthy eating habits and regular physical activity are the first steps in the journey to lose weight.
